Do You Have a Favorite Workout Shirt?

Do You Have a Favorite Workout Shirt?

There’s something real behind the slogan of “look good, play good”. In the world of sports psychology, the idea boils down to two terms: enclothed cognition and self-efficacy.

Enclothed Cognition is the influence that clothing has on your emotions. Clothes have a symbolic meaning, and you can have different physical experiences with different articles of clothing. So, if you think you’re wearing your favorite shirt, you feel a little more hype and swagger in your step.

Self-Efficacy is having determination in yourself through whatever challenge you’re currently facing, and feeling “confident enough” to perform at a high level. In other words, wearing a lucky shirt or pair of shoes can make you feel like you’ll be more effective, which gives you that boost of confidence to perform.

So, if you don’t have a lucky piece of workout clothing, consider deciding on one.
