Russell Leggett

What brought you to DCCF?
I wasn’t enjoying the process of working out on my own so, naturally, I wasn’t getting the results. I decided to make a change and try something new. I tried the normal gym routine and I felt myself getting bored with my day-to-day workouts and losing motivation. The next logical step was to try CrossFit. I just walked in one day and found myself coming back everyday since.

How long have you been a member?
Since September 2014

Did you play any sports in High School or College? Past athletic history?
I have always loved competing so I’ve played pretty much every sport. In high school I played Lacrosse competitively and Swam. In College I stuck to snowboarding, rock climbing, and whitewater kayaking with the occasional Basketball or soccer game.

Who inspires you at DCCF?
Definitely everyone from the beginners to the coaches. The community is the reason I keep coming back everyday. I think it’s important to have a group of people around you to keep you honest, hold you accountable, and motivate you when things get hard.

Tell us about your CrossFit goals…
My goal is to work harder than I did yesterday.

What are your proudest accomplishments in CrossFit?
I am proud that I have been able to stay consistent and perform no matter how sore or tired I am.

Since joining, what changes have you seen in your life?
The most notable change that I have seen is obviously physical, but the ones that excite me the most are the good habits that I am forming by doing the little things right and staying consistent – those are mental.

What areas are you working to improve?
My work ethic. I could be working harder. Also bodyweight exercises.

If you could have a theme song playing when you workout, what would it be?
Some of that hood-rat stuff. Anything that gets the people going.

If we named a WOD for you, what would it consist of?
Power cleans, burpees, AKBS, some sort of press, and running

Are you paleo? Zone? Neither? Some of all? What is your experience with that?
I try my darndest to eat paleo, but I’m not always successful. I have definitely become more aware of what I put into my body so I try to keep it clean – mostly meats, veggies, and fruits.

Do you use CrossFit principals in any other areas of your life?
Yes. If I don’t intend to do it right, give it my all, and finish it, then I won’t start it. I think that applies to all areas of my life.

What do you like to do in your down time?
I enjoy reading, golfing, balling, having fun with friends, and you know…long walks on the beach and stuff.
