What brought you to DCCF?
My physical activity prior to joining DCCF consisted mostly of running, with some yoga and, for a while, pure barre (judge away, my friends). I had pretty consistent injuries associated with running, stemming mostly from a weak core, and finally came to the conclusion after I ran my first (only) marathon last fall that I needed to do something about it or I was going to permanently hurt myself. More specifically, I came to DCCF because I’m extremely lazy and I didn’t want to drive very far.
How long have you been a member?
Since November of 2013.
Did you play any sports in High School or College? Past athletic history?
I am completely devoid of all hand/eye coordination and spatial awareness, and I was a music major in college so high school/college sports weren’t in the cards. I was a middle school volleyball player, and my finely honed skills can be seen on display most Sunday nights at Baxter Jack’s with the Derby City Sand Snatches.
Who inspires you at DCCF?
The entirety of Team 6am. Those people put in an incredible amount of effort and everyone always has a smile on their face. And this is before coffee.
Tell us about your CrossFit goals…
I’d love to be able to do more than 10 push-ups like an adult.
What are your proudest accomplishments in CrossFit?
When I actually started keeping track of PRs (last month), I PR’d my back squat. That was pretty cool, since I’ve never thought of myself as being a particularly strong person.
Since joining, what changes have you seen in your life?
I sleep better, I don’t have the same physical issues with running that I was experiencing before, and it’s been great for my personal self-confidence. It’s nice to be able to move (some) of my own furniture.
What areas are you working to improve?
Basically anything that we do which involves upper body strength.
If you could have a theme song playing when you workout, what would it be?
Jay-Z’s “99 Problems”
If we named a WOD for you, what would it consist of?
Laying on the floor in a pool of my own sweat and misery.
Are you paleo? Zone? Neither? Some of all? What is your experience with that?
Live every day like it’s cheat day.
Do you use CrossFit principals in any other areas of your life?
You mean like make sarcastic jokes and complain about what I have to do? I do that at work all the time!
What do you like to do in your down time?
Mostly eat. Hang out with my dog and boyfriend. Oh, also happy hour.
